PREORDER NOW – RELEASE JANUARY 28th

„When this is over I promise / I’ll be a different person / Work out every morning / And I’ll be as clean as my shoes.“ Na klar! Alles wird anders, alles wird besser. Danach. Versprochen. Larmoyanz? Never ever!

And you feel you’re disconnecting / From your Top 5 friends / And they don’t call it Disco“.

„We’re watching Peaky Blinders / All the time / Hope that they never find us.“ Die Serie als Beziehungskit. „So lean out of the window / Try to pull up a smile / It’s not that everything’s fucked up.“ Wenn uns das die Drei Herren von The Base versprechen, dann Glück gehabt, denn das Schlimmste kommt noch. Das Beste gibt´s schon jetzt - Lick A Stone Kill A Fly - beim Plattenhändler Ihres Vertrauens.

Rock N Roll, or: the abyss between the tables you’re dancing on.

We live in times of conspiracy theories. One goes like this: Brian Ferry created the ultimate crooner, named him Norbert Wally and put him into a place called Graz. The tuxedo would have suited him well, but instead of champagne, silk ties and bar jazz, Wally preferred beer, shirts and Rock-n-Roll music. Ferry has never played in Graz since.

But that is of course fake. The truth is: there are secret messages hidden in the songs of Lick A Stone Kill A Fly (Konkord 125) to make you, dear listener, constantly hammer the REPEAT button and trigger your most manic dance steps, just to fall out of the window with confetti in your hair.

Lick A Stone Kill A Fly is - again - a masterpiece by the Graz veteran unit. It’s songs are held in grey minor and incorporate the societal and psychological tremors of the past two years. No surprise there, Norbert Wally has earned himself a reputation of being a wide-awake seismograph of our times. Plus: he has got the voice to breathe life and soul into his songs of power, blood and lies. Albrecht Klinger and Karlheinz Miklin Jr - aka the bone-dry rhythm section - underpin these stories with driving sparseness, concentration and straightforwardness - reminiscent of the stoic determination of a barfly doing what he does best.

The Base deliver a supersolid Rock-n-Roll record that’s been cast from a single mold of steaming steel and provides us with a fair amount of stagediving and headbanging! It’s an album that swings its way through times of isolation and the everpresent fear of losing touch.

"When this is over I promise / I'll be a different person / Work out every morning / And I'll be as clean as my shoes." Sure thing! Everything will be different, everything will be better. After this. Promise. In the meantime let’s just shut up and listen to "I'll be Sultan" in awe - this fantastic cinemascopic ballad dressed in garish hues winds itself with the help of a brass section into bittersweet despair, like in a Douglas Sirk movie. Melancholy: yes. Larmoyance? Never ever! According to The Base the worst may be yet to come, so until then let’s stick with the best at hand, and that is an album called Lick A Stone Kill A Fly. You’ll find it at your local record store.
